A short list of 5-6 songs that I’ve been listening to frequently the last few days, or, as they say, have been living rent-free in my head (singing them on Zoey walks, etc.).
For more under this tag see: ‘rent-free-music’
I did some travelling in the last week of March. So there wasn’t a lot of ‘active listening’ to music like there usually is. Still, on one of the days we did catch a live performance by a band called Neon (Instagram), so some of those longs featured heavily in my, er, head (as the title of this series implies)
In no particular order:
- Rigga Digga Ding Dong Song (Indian Version): Hear me out, apart from the nostalgia kick of hearing this song after decades, something incredible happened on the dance floor — pretty much everyone (other than Mr. 2-Left-Feet author here) started doing the dance sequence (or a very close variation) from the song. It was fun.
- I want it that way (Brooklyn 99 version): Again, hear me out. While performing this song, the band suddenly went “Now no. 5”, and so many people burst out laughing at the same moment. People from different parts of country, with varied media diets all in on the joke. Nice.
- Sweet Child O’ Mine - Guns and Roses: The band closed with this song, maybe it was the down to full evening of singing and shouting after a long day at the beach, but… goosebumps.
- Hey Baby - DJ ÖTZI: This is often used in stadium chants sometimes to hilarious effect - see Jermain Defoe, Bradford City, NYCFC, WWE Wrestler Bayley. Here’s an english football version interspersed with bits of commentary. There’s something about how the oohs and aahs reverberate across a stadium filled with people that gets me.
- Rasputin - Boney M: Got my friends to do a coordinated Russian jig (well, sort of) 😂.
P.S. Feel free to judge my music taste. If I do end up continuing this is a series, please prepare for whiplash.
